A new initiative of the Department of State Development, delivered by AGA (part of the IntoWork Group), is transforming the way graduate students launch their careers. The Alternative program is designed to connect businesses with the state’s top young talent. Philip Degenhardt, Director and Principal Engineer at Motiv Engineering found out about The Alternative program through a colleague in the recruitment industry. “I was able to liaise with AGA and the team at The Alternative about our business needs and the technical requirements of the role, I was then presented with candidates, securing top talent through the process”. Philip’s experience has been positive with “consistent communications, regular check in points and the opportunity to provide feedback to get the best value and experience from the program”. “From an employers perspective, The Alternative is a great way to gain access to graduate talent and bring young people with fresh ideas into our business”. Vincent Ravida, a recent graduate in mechanical engineering and biomedical from Flinders University, has secured a rewarding placement at Motiv Engineering, a company renowned for its innovative work in vehicle testing and accreditation. Vincent opted for The Alternative program to further develop his technical skills. “My two degrees are quite different, but they share a common language,” Vincent said.” I was happy to find a program that aligned with my technical background. The Alternative program allowed me to engage in work I truly enjoyed during my university years, and I was eager to pursue it.” AGA, one of the three key delivery partners of The Alternative program, plays a vital role in ensuring the success of participants like Vincent. AGA manages the day-to-day assessment, selection and placement of graduates into businesses, as well as handling employment matters such as line reporting, performance management, and payroll.
